Who We Are
Sam Downie was diagnosed with Autism in late 2017.
Talking about Autism (and Epilepsy) *advocating* is a big part of Sam’s life , and he loves the fact, that sharing his tips and struggles can educate those less aware about Autism and Epilepsy, whilst supporting other people on the spectrum.
Sam often steps away from the camera lens to speak at Public Events, Conferences, as well as Radio and Podcasts.
Sam is a prolific speaker on Autism, Epilepsy, Disability and Mental Health, by talking about it, openly.
Despite the struggles he faces living on the Autistic spectrum ( such as discrimination and not being understood ), Sam has achieved what many filmmakers aspire to do, which is – to develop, shoot, edit and have his films screened at international film festivals, using a combination of skills, talent and techniques.
Sam has also been making videos on YouTube since 2004 and has been uploading a range of interviews, short films and Livestreams ever since. He’s an experienced Live Webcaster & Podcaster, and was one of the world’s 1st reality “live-streamers” (yes, that was a term then in 2005).
Sam also manages to balance all this with visits to Cinema’s (Sam currently loves IMAX, Big Screens and Dolby Atmos), theatre, walking, composing music, exploring and.. baking soda bread #realbread, amongst other things.

Sam’s own personal story about living with Epilepsy, Autism and a Rare Genetic Syndrome – is told in a new book titled “After That Day – Stories of Epilepsy” published by Sofie’s Journey and launched in November 2019, at the 2019 Epilepsy Awareness & Education Expo, a free 3-day event during the Epilepsy Awareness Day at Disneyland® Resort (EADDL).
This beautiful, rich colour, hardback book contains forty- five personal accounts of people who have been forever changed, by seizures. These stories offer a challenging look at survival, and in many cases, a cure. Each story features amazing, introspective photos which compliment and tell the story as well as the written words.
One out of every twenty-six people will have epilepsy in their lifetime. It can come when you least expect it, and no one is exempt from its grasp.
