BT Storytellers: London 2012 Olympics

THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH, DESERVES THE GREATEST STORYTELLERS…

In March 2011, I applied to become a Storyteller for the Olympic’s, for BT the official Communications sponsor/partner, who were looking for 100 people from across the UK, to blog, to tweet, to netcast, to photograph, to video.. to create a long-lasting “Digital Record” of the London 2012 Olympic Games and the Cultural Olympiad. In June 2011… I was chosen, out of 45,000 people who applied!

In July, I launched my own “micro-website” to focus and feature my blogs, media, and content – all to do with the London 2012 Olympics. Visit this link > http://dsoundz.co.uk/btldn2012/blog < to read my latest Blog posts from my coverage!

Visit www.facebook.com/samsldn2012 to join our Facebook page – to be kept up to date on my progress and to support my journey as a Digital Storyteller for BT and the London 2012 Olympics and the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad project/festival.

SAMSLDN2012.CO.UK aims to capture, record, blog, tweet, podcast, netcast – and share their content of the London 2012 Olympics. SAMSLDN2012 is run by Sam Downie from Dsoundz Media, a digital media content producer, based in Bristol, South West England.

BACKGROUND: WHY WAS SAM DOWNIE CHOSEN ?

Sam Downie suffers from two types of Epilepsy and has a form of Aspergers Syndrom – but this won’t stop him with his coverage of the London 2012 Games.

Each month leading up to the games – and then every week – Sam Downie will have to submit Blog and News stories, Tweets, Webcasts and Video clips, Audioboo’s and more – for publication on BT’s dedicated website, to help mark one year to go to the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Sam Downie said :

I am absolutely thrilled. Hundreds of thousands of people applied to be a BT storyteller and I can’t believe I have been chosen. Friends of mine applied for tickets to see some of the events, but were unable to get them. Now I am going to be right there in the thick of action, and reporting on it with exclusive access…. Fantastic!

So what sport’s does Sam Downie like anyway..? Sam said :

If pushed I would say my favorite Olympic sport’s are Swimming, Marathon, Track and Field, Basketball, Cycling – although I enjoy watching most Olympic disciplines…

In addition, Sam’s also interested in covering the Paralympic’s, as he’s also a person with several Disability’s such as Epilepsy and Aspergers Syndrome. He say’s “I’m interested in covering the Paralympic’s, as I’ve recently been diagnosed with Epilepsy, so know how people with Disability’s try to cope, and go on to achieve great things.. so I am hoping that they are what I get to cover. I am really looking forward to meeting the Olympians and seeing them in action.”

The London 2012 Olympic games run from July 27 to August 12 2012, and the Paralympic Games from August 29 to September 9, 2012.
